What I read this summer

A short list, mostly older books picked up second-hand.

• The Peregrine by J. A. Baker — dense and strange, best read a few pages at a time.
• Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome — still funny after more than a century.
• The Old Ways by Robert Macfarlane — made me want to walk more, which is partly why the river loop happened.
• The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro — a re-read; it lands differently every time.

Next on the pile: something about bread, and something about owls.
